Starboard float joining (con’t)

Although I wasn’t able to do any work on the boat last weekend, dad was able to finish taping the keel joins on the stbd. float, rough-cut the transom off, and rough-fair the float after removing it from the frames. Must admit, looks a lot better than we were expecting. Not sure what we WERE expecting, but nothing looking this “good” for two people that have never built a fiberglass boat before 🙂

I wish I had remembered to bring the camera with me, but of course I forgot. Took some pictures with the camera phone, but I don’t think they show enough to be worth-while uploading to the site. Will take better pictures next time – promise.

Things left to do on this float before it can be glassed externally :

  1. Build the “bow cap” (guess that’s what you can call it)
  2. Attach the chainplate-pad and chainplates (both built and ready to install)
  3. Build the internal beam support webs
  4. Build the deck
  5. Bog and sand out the high/low spots in the foam

Seems like a lot of work to do, but it should continue to progress. Will do these after joining the port float, as then the form-frames can be taken down and have a little more working room.
