Another main hull update
Just a picture – I checked the web cam pictures that dad occasionally takes and it seems that he has done some more bogging on the deck and gunwale area so I’m posting a picture.

More work on port half of main hull
Port side of the main hull is now planked and partially bogged. Of course, another cold-snap with temperatures in the 30’s, so the bog was still tacky the next afternoon and we were not able to sand it.
At the time of this writing, we now have a full roll of B spec cloth, but it wasn’t there this weekend, so even if the bog cured enough to sand, we wouldn’t have been able to do much.

First main hull bulkhead
I know it isn’t much, but I quickly ran out of time this weekend.
Here’s a picture from the bow looking forward. Only need to plank a little more and then put the deck foam in place.
Made a simple jig for positioning the aft cabin bulkhead
As you can see, still need to dig out the foam in the access hole and back-fill with bog. Will do that next time a batch is mixed up (most likely when bogging the rest of the foam for the gunwale and deck.

First section of main hull half laminated
Just like we thought would happen, we ran out of B cloth last night while laying everything out. Still managed to get a good portion of the half laminated, including all of the aft cabin. Only part that needs glass on it right now is the flat portion at the gunwale, but since we’re out, figure we’ll just go ahead and do that portion in the same shot as the deck.

Finally back to building
After some schedule conflicts between me and dad, different commitments and a few stints of traveling out of town for work (with more coming over the course of the next month) – we are finally back to some boat building! 🙂
In my absence, dad has managed to finish planking the hull half from the gunwhale to the keel and we’re just about finished smoothing out the bog…. Am hoping to start putting some fiberglass on later this evening or tomorrow when the temperature gets stable.

I spoke too soon
Another e-mail update from dad….
…so maybe I will start to feel *slightly* guilty… 🙂

Catching some grief from dad…
Got an email yesterday (not even 24 hours after touching ground back in Texas!) from dad –
“see what you’re missing??” along with 3 web-cam pictures of the main hull planking he has done in my absence…
Though, I don’t see any HD foam on the keel yet, or any bogging between the planks – so I’m not going to feel guilty until it’s ready to ‘glass… 😉

Quick update
Just wanted to post a quick update. Apparently dad is just about finished planking (or is finished by this time) from the keel to the turn of the gunwale. It’s been rather cold again this week (temps in the 20’s and 30’s F) and I don’t think he’s managed to bog the foam together. Am also unsure of HD being put in the keel yet. There is a chance that we might be able to fiberglass it when I get back into town in 2 weeks (am in San Francisco right now and then off to Los Angeles next week for work).

Starting to plank the main hull
Not too much to say so I’ll let the pictures do the talking. Have found the heat gun really helps get the curve right near the keel – especially towards the bow.
Battens in place:
First planks go down:
Almost to the bow…
The plan is to get the hull planked from the keel to the gunwale, bog the seams, and glass it. After that we’ll continue up to the deck and start placing bulkheads.

Plan Book 2 arrives
Dad informed me yesterday that Plan Book 2 arrived in the mail. Am anxiously awaiting flipping through it and wishing we were a little closer to needing it.
Will need to make a few adjustments to the float decks when they come out of storage (very small adjustments regarding some extra re-enforcing for two beam bolts) – at that time we’ll also attach the wing-net rail since we received that update after putting them in storage.
