Laminating stardboard main hull half
Whew. What a long morning.. 🙂
Woke up a little after 5 this morning, had a few cups of coffee and then we went to work on the hull. In just over 2 hours time, we slapped a little bog where some was needed at the keel curves, rolled out a little over 23 feet of fabric, laminated, and added the uni at the keel. Rather quick paced, and it’s already in the 80’s at 0930.

Ready to have some fun….
The stbd main hull half is all bogged and sanded together and ready to start the first section of laminating (from the keel to the gunwale) –

Plan is to do a full sheet of B cloth, add the uni at the keel and then it’ll be ready to finish planking the deck areas.
Time spent: (for all planking, etc since last time update) : 16 hours

Starboard main hull half progress
Looks like dad’s been making good use of a few days off from work (wish I was that lucky right now!)

Can’t tell for certain, but it looks like he has the HD bogged in on the keel as well since I see what appears to be a purple line along that area…

Kudos to him.. Next thing I know he’s gonna have this half built before I can even take a breather from work for a weekend!

Frames set up for starboard half
What a surprisingly hot weekend!
We got all the frames reversed, braced, plummed and installed battens… whew!

After the two of us got the frames swapped and plummed, dad started putting the battens in while I built the mold for the rudder gudgeons. For reference, 66grams of epoxy in 95 degree weather gets a little hot… 🙂

I THINK it will be okay, but won’t know until I trim it down to size.

Port hull half out of the garage!
What an exciting morning!
Dad busted his arse Saturday taking out all the screws and making sure the hull was free from the battens. I got there this morning at around 09.30am and he and our friend Fred were already there discussing how to make this all happen.
Within a few moments we had some straps from the ceiling attaching to the forward and aft beam bulkheads and began to heave ……

Almost ready to come out of the mold!
How exciting!
We’re planning on spending this coming Sunday (May 4th, 2008) taking the first main hull half out of the mold. I can hardly wait. Only things left to finish up before taking out:
Take out a few hundred screws Sand/Grind the last few patch spots Sand/Grind some tape edges Tape the under-side of the aft cabin bunk I’m guessing it’s going to be an all-day ordeal Sunday, since we’ll have to hoist the boat up a few feet and then take down the form-frames to make room to get it out of the garage.

Embedded pictures fixed
Alright – everything should be resolved now with the embedded pictures to the gallery. I’ve gone back and edited the pages where I had to put HTML links in place to have the thumbnails. Let me know if there are any problems.

Gallery link “fixed”
I just realized my Gallery link was broken because of the broken plug-in so I changed the link to point to the generic gallery layout until the issue is resolved. It looks vastly different, so my apologies, but all the stuff is still there.

Main hull bulkheads part 3.5
Ok – calling it quits for the evening. Did not have quite enough time to tape everything; Sette is taped and finished, aft cabin forward bulkhead is bogged in place, aft cabin bunk is bogged in place.
All that’s left now is to fillet/tape the aft cabin forward bulkhead and aft cabin bunk, grind a few more spots and take this hull out of the mould. 🙂
