More progress on Starboard float

Preface : Sanding is one thing… sanding in 90 degree weather is another… it’s going to be a long summer!

We finished fairing the inner face of the starboard float between Friday and Saturday.  Nothing real exciting here, other than it’s (hopefully) finished – will know more when we spray the entire float with primer.

The float was then hoisted, supports reversed, and then lowered to reveal the outer face (last one on this float!).  Decided to try an idea I got from Henny’s building site and use cake decorating bags to pipe lines of fairing compound out instead of using the notched spreader.  Took a little while to get used to how it flowed and how to hold the bag – and this stuff starts kicking fast in these temperatures!

Sanded down MUCH faster than the notched spreader, and seemed to give good markings for highs and lows, so depending on how this side works out, might end up continuing to do fairing this way.

Spread the first full layer of fairing compound out on the float

I wish I could say that no animal was harmed in the creation of this trimaran, but it seems this little guy went exploring while the fairing compound was still wet and ended up getting himself stuck before I even noticed he was there.. 🙁

Forgot to take pictures of how things were before I left the shop, but hopefully another day or two fairing (filling in some remaining lows and letting those dry) and this float will be ready to throw on primer and then go to storage.  Am looking forward to that, as it means a (short) break from fairing to laminate the deck and exterior of the port float… then it’s back to fairing (hopefully quicker this time) and then FINALLY starting the main hull… hopefully in a few months at this rate?
