First half almost ready for fiberglass

Finished planking the foam today. Was surprised that even with Wurstfest band commitments, dad was able to spend some time planking during the week. I only had 3 pieces to cut and place today.

The next thing I did after that was to go around and circle anything that looked like it might have a hole or need some bog placed when I got ready to glue the foam together. I have decided that I loathe Gorilla Glue for joining foam pieces together. No matter how much you scrape and smooth it while drying, it foams up and expands to form a big mess.

So I took a rasp to this crap and got it down to the level of the foam. Everything will be bog from here on. Took the Dremel and routed a small “V” between the foam pieces to make sure they get glued securely and mixed up a batch of bog. Mixed 188g of epoxy and added microballoons and a little cab-o-sil. Ended up weighing almost the exact same amount by the time I was finished mixing. Was ALMOST enough to do everything (except the Gorilla Glue portion).

Even though it was cold today, by the time 45 minutes had elapsed from mixing the epoxy parts together, the bog was getting difficult to smooth.

Next step is to trim the excess foam and install the mold piece for the deck flange. Also started cutting the foam for the bow stringer.

Evening cut short to visit an old friend who was in town on vacation from Colorado with her almost-2-year-old son that I’d never met before. 🙂
